Difficult experiences and trauma can affect many areas of life, including relationships, self-esteem, emotional wellbeing and the ability to feel safe and secure. Counselling provides an opportunity to explore these experiences in a supportive, confidential and non-judgemental environment.
I have a particular interest in supporting people affected by childhood trauma, domestic abuse, emotional abuse, coercive control and complex PTSD.
Trauma can affect many areas of life, including relationships, self-esteem, emotional wellbeing and the ability to feel safe and secure. Counselling provides an opportunity to explore these experiences in a supportive, confidential and non-judgemental environment.
The effects of trauma can continue long after the original experiences have ended. Many people find themselves struggling with anxiety, self-criticism, emotional overwhelm, people-pleasing behaviours or difficulties in relationships without fully understanding why.
Counselling can help you to:

Experiences of domestic abuse and emotional abuse can have a profound impact on emotional wellbeing and sense of self.
Abuse is not always physical. Many people experience controlling behaviour, manipulation, criticism, intimidation, coercive control or emotional neglect that can leave lasting effects long after the relationship has ended.
Counselling provides a safe space to explore these experiences, understand their impact and begin rebuilding confidence, self-worth and emotional safety.
Complex PTSD is associated with a range of emotional and psychological responses that can develop following prolonged or repeated trauma, including childhood trauma and domestic abuse.
These may include:
These responses are widely recognised as common adaptations to overwhelming or unsafe experiences.
Counselling can help you understand these responses, reduce their impact over time and develop a greater sense of emotional stability, confidence and safety.
I offer a trauma-informed approach to counselling that prioritises safety, trust and collaboration.
Therapy moves at a pace that feels manageable for you. There is no expectation to discuss experiences before you feel ready. Together we can explore the impact of trauma, develop greater understanding of emotional patterns and work towards meaningful and lasting change.
